Companies increasingly need BOTH Corporate data in Oracle and Big Data on HDFS and then find they need to integrate the two into common reports. This talk presents an overview of how Big Data SQL enables you to run Oracle queries seamlessly across both sets of data and use Oracle analytics against data on HDFS.The talk will take a look at how Oracle offloads queries to Smart Scan on HDFS and how to use Oracle security features such as redaction on HDFS data.

After 5 years at a startup in the UK I moved to the US and spent 5 years working on ANSI SQL support for multi-dimensional databases. In 1995, I moved to Sybase and became the query engine architect for the world's first commercial pure columnar database and chair of the TPC-H subcommittee.In 2005, I moved to Oracle, spending first 2 years in the Data Guard group at the last 10 years in the Data Storage Technologies where I am now the Architect for Exadata Smart Scan, co-owner of the table scan driver, and a member of both the In-Memory and Big Data SQL teams.
